Dear Mental Health Professional,

At Compeer Buffalo, we partner with mental health professionals and volunteers to support adults and youth who are seeking meaningful social connection as part of their overall wellness.

As of January 29, 2026, Compeer is relaunching our client application process with an expanded social connection model designed to increase access, flexibility, and engagement for individuals across Erie County.

*If you are a referral partner at one of our partnering school districts or higher education institutions, please use the client application link that was provided to you by Compeer staff. For questions, please contact Ashleigh Cieri, Director of Programs, at ashleigh@compeerbuffalo.org.

We believe that our volunteers, through the healing power of friendship, contribute to the mental well-being of those we serve.

Important Notes for Referring Mental Health Professionals

  • A referral to Compeer does not guarantee a one-to-one volunteer match.
  • Services are non-clinical and are intended to complement- not replace- treatment.

How to Submit an Application:

  • What to Expect Next

  • A Compeer staff member will follow up with the mental health provider within 10 business days. The mental health provider will inform the client of the outcome of their application.  Accepted clients will complete additional intake paperwork and client orientation.
  • What Happens After an Application Is Submitted

    • Application Review

Compeer reviews the application to determine eligibility for the program.

    • Eligibility Confirmation

If the application is deemed eligible, Compeer sends intake paperwork to both the client and the mental health provider.

    • Paperwork Completion

The client completes the required paperwork and returns it to Compeer.

    • Client Orientation

Once paperwork is received, the client is invited to attend a Compeer orientation. Orientation provides an overview of the program, expectations, and next steps.

    • Program Acceptance

Acceptance into the Compeer program occurs after the client has completed orientation.

    • Connection to Services

After acceptance, the client is connected to Compeer services.

If you have questions about eligibility, program availability, or the application process, please contact Mark Gatti, Peer Support Specialist  at 716-883-3331 ext 325.
