Award Recipients

Compeer Spirit Award – Ellen Daly

The Compeer Spirit award recognizes someone within our Compeer Community who truly embodies the spirit of friendship and advocacy.

Ellen Daly has done it all. She has served on the Board of Directors. She’s been a one-to-one friend. She has supported social activities. And she has been involved with the Friendship in Golf Tournament for four years, most recently serving as chair of the event, which raised nearly $40,000 for Compeer.

Ellen has walked with Compeer through leadership changes, program expansions, and organizational growth, all while balancing a full-time career and many other community service responsibilities. Now in retirement, Ellen continues to show up, bringing her wisdom, her energy, and her belief that mental wellbeing is for everyone.

Individual Advocacy Award – Craig and Danielle Muni

The Individual(s) Advocacy Award honors a person or persons in the Buffalo community who exemplify Compeer’s mission. This year’s recipients are Craig and Danielle Muni.

In the year and a half since losing their son Joey to suicide, Craig and Danielle Muni have made it their mission to raise awareness so that no other family has to feel the pain they carry.

They created the Joey Muni Memorial Fund, hosted fundraisers benefiting Compeer Buffalo and AFSP WNY, and used their voices to reach even further. They pitched to Hockey USA the importance of educating coaches and players on mental health, ensuring athletes across the country receive the support and awareness they need.

Through their advocacy, Craig and Danielle are turning heartbreak into hope. May we all be able to channel grief into action in the way they have.

Organization Advocacy Award – Chiavetta’s

The Organization Advocacy Award honors an organization that has shown remarkable dedication to mental health advocacy.

Since 2020, Chiavetta’s Chicken BBQ has stood shoulder to shoulder with Compeer Buffalo. What began with a video and sticker campaign has grown into an enduring partnership.

Each year, Chiavetta’s has not only provided generous financial contributions, but also joined committees, collaborated on community events, trained their staff, and, most importantly, keeps mental health at the center of how they support their employees, customers, and the wider community.
