Compeer Kids range in age from 3-17. Compeer children and youth are in need of caring mentoring/friendship relationships. Volunteers who are matched with Compeer youth commit to weekly visits with their friends of at least an hour for a minimum of one year and offer essential emotional support and become a positive role model in the life of the youth they serve.
There are more than 100 Compeer programs in the United States, but Compeer of Greater Buffalo has the largest kids program. Each year we make a difference in the lives of hundreds of kids who simply need a friend. Many Compeer kids don't have the support that they need to succeed. Currently, the Compeer for Kids Program offers a number of things to be involved with such as Across Ages (a special program for mentors aged 50 plus), Mentoring Children of Prisoners, and Second Step (a violence prevention curriculum).
Our mentors impact children in big ways by simply spending quality time with them. Compeer kids love to share their stories too! For more information on becoming a Compeer mentor to a youth with potential contact karen@compeerbuffalo.org or to apply today click here!
